BED RACE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS
Rules:
- There is a non-refundable entry fee of $300.00 per team. All bed and team costs are borne by the entrants. Entrants are encouraged to find sponsors for their bed entries. Sponsorships can be advertised as part of the bedding, etc. This is a great fundraiser for your organization!
- Each team will consist of five members: one rider and four pushers. Team member must be 18 years of age. ALL team members must sign a waiver of liability.
- Pushers must keep their bed from interfering with competing beds and they are responsible for stopping their beds before letting go. Beds should be able to move in a straight line.
- Halfway through the race a rider, dressed in pajamas (pajamas must be top & bottom with buttons) will be required to switch with one of the pushers and exchange the pajamas. Pajamas must be correctly on before continuing the race.
- All team members must cross the finish line with their bed.
- The race will be run in heats with the finalists running a final heat to determine the winner.
- Participants will design, build and decorate their own bed according to the specifications below. Any number of people can participate in building and decorating the bed.
- Each team can have an unlimited number of supporters acting as “pit crew” and cheerleaders. However, they cannot be actively involved in the race itself.
- Team captains must be at the start line with the bed in place two hours before the posted start time. Beds will be inspected to verify that the rules have been followed and the judging for “best dressed” will take place at that time.
Bed Specifications:
- The beds may be an actual bed frame, either twin or full size. The bed cannot be longer than 6.5 feet in length.
- The bed must have four wheels, one at each corner, and they must be firmly attached to the bed. We suggest bolting or welding the wheels to the frame. All wheels must touch the ground at the same time, no lopsided construction.
- The bed construction must include a device for the rider to grip and hold for stabilizing purposes.
- A mattress (actual or homemade of some material) is required along with full bedding (sheets, pillows, and blanket/comforter…use your imagination). All materials must make it across the finish line at the same time as the bed. Bedding and decorations must stay clear of the wheels and not drag on the ground. All decorations and bedding must be in good taste. Mardi Gras Theme!
- No steering mechanisms are allowed. No sharp or dangerous objects may protrude from the bed.
